Expiring Things
Why notifications seem not working as expected
In recent years, devices manufacturers have started to preinstall in their devices very aggressive software to control background execution of the user’s apps.
This way, they can claim a much longer battery life, but this is done to the detriment of proper functionality of the software users decide to install on the devices they have paid for.
This can cause any sort of problems for apps that count on background execution to fulfill their work.
In the case of Expiring Things, the only functionality that can be affected is the notification one.
And in fact, many users complain the fact that notifications do not work, until they disable battery optimization for the app in their device settings.
The steps to disable battery optimization for an app vary between manufacturer, version of the operating system and version of the manufacturer UI, but generally users need to find something related to battery optimization in their device, and exclude the app for which they want proper functionality from such optimization.
Please note that - for certain manufacturers - you have to tweak the settings in two different places.
You can find detailed instructions on how to do that for the vast majority of devices at www.dontkillmyapp.com.
If you don’t find a solution there, feel free to contact me with the contact form, and I will see if I can help.
VERY IMPORTANT: after changing your device settings, set the notification time at least 15 minutes after the current time. If not, the notification could be set for the next day.
